The brief
A dashboard nobody could read at a glance
Meridian's analysts opened the product forty times a day and still could not answer their most common question — is anything wrong right now — without building a custom view. Every screen showed everything, weighted equally, with no hierarchy between a routine number and a number that meant something had broken.
What we changed
We rebuilt the interface around a single question: what does this person need to decide in the next thirty seconds? Everything else moved one level down. The default view now surfaces exceptions rather than totals, and the totals are still there — one click away, where they belong.
Alongside the interface we built a token-driven component library so the twelve engineers on the platform stopped making one-off styling decisions. That library is still in use unchanged.
The result
Analysts finish their morning review in a little over half the time it used to take. Support tickets in the "I can't find" category dropped by nearly two thirds. The part the team mentions most, though, is that new hires stop asking how to read the screen after their first day.
